Truett-Hurst Wines

Jeff Hurst from Truett-Hurst WinesI was at one of my favorite wine stores the other day and the person pouring the day’s tastings was Jeff Hurst from Truett-Hurst Wines.  It didn’t occur to me until that moment that I realized just how many of the wines produced by Truett-Hurst I enjoy.  They make some great wines at a fair price.

Take a look at this list:

• California Square

This brand comes in Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Red Blend.  The Red Blend is one of my everyday faves.  It is a Paso Robles blend of Merlot, Petite Sirah, Zinfandel, Sangiovese and Syrah.  And it rocks. It’s also cool that it comes in a square bottle.  More on California Square…

• Eden Ridge

This also comes in Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon and a Red Blend. Full of tropical flavors as well as peach, poached pear and butterscotch. You’re not going to get a lot of creamy, buttery flavor with this, but it’s also not $30. This is one of my favorite everyday Chardonnays for $10 from Mendocino County.  And it’s hard to find a drinkable Chardonnay at that price.

• The Fugitive

This red blend gives The Prisoner a run for its money.  Love this wine!  It is a blend of 76% Zinfandel, 15% Petite Sirah and 9% Syrah and aged 10 months in new French oak. Alcohol is on the higher side at 15.6%.

• Truett-Hurst Zinfandel

I tasted this at the store and it was quite delightful. Rich and affordable.

• The One-Armed Man

I haven’t had this one yet. But I did purchase a bottle.  This takes The Fugitive and ages a bit more and is a direct competitor to The Prisoner. According to everything I read about this wine, there is no Zinfandel in it. It is a blend of Syrah, Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, and Merlot. I do look forward to opening it soon. It is well rated online.

• The Wine With No Name

Another wine I am definitely going to check out is The Wine With No Name.  It is a red wine blend that is made for Bar-B-Que foods.  According to the website, it is “blended to stand up to big flavors and walk the flavor tightrope between sweetness, spice, smoke, and heat. Think bacon wrapped fresh cherries.”  And even though there is no list of varietals in this blend, I am now officially drooling.

Cheers.
